Aladdin Will Bow in London Next Summer
Broadway.com has confirmed that the previously reported West End transfer of hit musical Aladdin will fly into London next summer. Directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw, the tuner is set to open at the Prince Edward Theatre, which is currently home to Miss Saigon. Aladdin continues to run on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre, starring original cast members Adam Jacobs as Aladdin, Courtney Reed as Jasmine, Tony winner James Monroe Iglehart as the Genie and Jonathan Freeman as Jafar.
Hamilton is Set to Be a Book (Again!)
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s much-buzzed about new tuner Hamilton, which is based on historian Ron Chernow’s biography of the founding father, is going back into print form next year! Grand Central Publishing will release Hamilton: The Book in April 2016, just in time for Tony campaign season! “Our goal here is to take you INSIDE Hamilton: not just the timeline of its creation, but the thought process, historical considerations, and artistic decisions that went into my lyrics, from beginning to end," said Miranda, in a statement. “I want you to know everything about it." Hamilton is currently in preview at the Richard Rodgers Theatre and will officially open on August 6.
Longtime Broadway Vet Tom Toner Dead at 87
Tom Toner, a popular stage performer whose Broadway career spanned three decades, died on July 12 at the age of 87. On the Great White Way, he created roles in the musical hits Me and My Girl and The Secret Garden and was a well-loved presence at many regional theaters, including eight seasons at Houston’s Alley Theatre and two at Arena Stage. On film, he appeared in multiple movies for the Coen Brothers and found himself as a man of the cloth in his final roles on the big screen in the remake of Arthur and opposite Meryl Streep in Doubt.
Go Behind the Scenes of Waitress
We have our first look at the eagerly anticipated new musical, Sara Bareilles' Waitress! Directed by Diane Paulus and starring Tony winner Jessie Mueller, Jeanna de Waal, Drew Gehling, Dakin Matthews, Keala Settle and Joe Tippett, the production will make its world premiere at American Repertory Theater on August 2.
